ABSTRACT:
Not all standards are created equal. Some are technically elegant but achieve little market adoption. Others are broadly deployed. By virtually any measure, the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) 802.11 wireless local area network (WLAN) standards have achieved international success. In addition, the IEEE 802.11 committee continues to develop many new standards that improve WLAN performance, security, and manageability. In this research report, Burton Group Senior Analyst Paul DeBeasi reviews current and future WLAN standards and their relevancy for the enterprise.
